Our relatively smooth sailing last night turned into a Force 12 gale. For those of you unfamiliar with the Beaufort scale, it only goes to 12 and it is a combination of wind speed and wave height. For our case, the sustained winds are 100 mph and the waves are 30-40 feet high. In other words, we are sailing through a Category 2 Hurricane/Typhoon. The bow is crashing through waves showering the entire front of the ship 6 decks high in spray. Really fun stuff. Most of the passengers are hanging out in their cabins. We should reach the shelter of South America by this evening and arrive back at Ushuaia early in the morning.
Wind speed in knots. Add 10% for mph!
